If you’re like me, you’re still on the hunt for that perfect kick-ass Halloween costume – the one that will make you stand out from all the other costumed freaks walking around town. Well, have I got some ideas for you! I turned to my childhood for inspiration and came up with some fantastic options. My only issue now is that I can’t decide on JUST one costume.
You’ll definitely be the talk of the town in a Ms. Frizzle costume! I mean, not only does she have keen fashion sense, carry a lizard, and ride in a ‘magic school bus,’ but she will bring back fond childhood memories for almost everyone you run into. There are plenty of DIY Ms. Frizzle costumes out there that you can look to for inspiration. Just Google Ms. Frizzle Costume and look at all the wonderful theme dresses, bus purses, and stuffed lizards! If you have a large group of friends, you could even dress up as the entire Magic School Bus group. And if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, carry a REAL lizard (just kidding, you should probably stick to the stuffed ones).
Pop Art Costume
Have you always wanted to star in your own comic book? Well, now you can look as if you walked right out of the pages of your favorite one! I have to admit this is a pretty sweet costume. And all it takes is a little make-up. Here’s a pop art make-up tutorial to help you all out. Be creative!
Beetlejuice and Lydia
I had to include this costume idea. Beetlejuice is a classic! And I may or may not have attempted to reenact the dinner scene during my childhood. There are so many options here. Beetlejuice could wear his iconic striped suit or his velvet wedding suit, while Lydia could wear a red bridal gown or simply lots of black. If your friends want to get in on the act, there are plenty of other characters they can channel on Halloween night – Ms. Argentina, the Deetz family, Otho, the shrunken head guy, the witchdoctor, etc. Hell, get the whole gang together and put on a show! Note: If you want to modernize this classic, you can always be Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke instead. I mean, if Beetlejuice had a kid, I think we found him.
Zack and Kelly
Here’s another childhood show that people are sure to remember! Grab a bad blonde wig, a giant brick cell phone, some bad 90s fashion and you’re all set! And if you really want to add to it recruit your friends to be the rest of the Saved by the Bell gang. For inspiration check out Zack and Kelly costumes on Google.
The Kiss isn’t necessarily from my childhood, but it is an iconic piece of history and a fun costume for a couple. All you need is a sailor’s costume and nurse’s costume. Then when people ask about your costumes you strike the pose! It will look great in photos and give you an excuse to kiss your loved one. Win win!
