5 Reasons You Should Love Your Body

Only have one body, body love

You’re Beautiful by Gali-Miau

After my previous post about talking to girls about their bodies, I realized that many other women endured the same harsh criticism about their weight that I have. Well, it’s time to leave all of that behind in search of self love.

You are strong, beautiful, intelligent people. It’s time to own it! And here’s why:

1. Your body can do amazing things.

Your body is the source of so much enjoyment and wonder within your life. It allows you to run that 10 minute mile, balance a baby on your hip, shake your groove thing on the dance floor, bring new life into the world and so much more.  And none of this has anything to do with your appearance. So, love your body; appreciate its wonders.

2. You get it from yo’ mama.

Not only do I have my mother’s love of chocolate, but I also have her pear shaped body and chubby cheeks. And I’m damn proud of it! We often complain about our inherited flaws when we should be celebrating the fact that we share these attributes with our loved ones. Someday you may see your mother’s eyes in the face of your child and it will all make sense. Relish the gifts you share with your family.

3. You’re not a Stepford wife/husband.

The world would be a pretty boring place if we were all rocking the same body shape and size. Your quirks and imperfections help distinguish you from all the other cookie cutter Stepford wives/husbands. So don’t hide your imperfections. Love them. Respect them.

4. Confidence is sexy.

The sexiest thing a person can wear is confidence. The glow and smile that radiates from a confident person is magnetic and contagious making them some of the most beautiful people in the world. Be comfortable and confident in your own skin and you’ll shine too.

5. You’re perfectly imperfect.

And last, but not least, you’re perfectly imperfect. No matter your weight, height, color, race, and nationality, you are perfect just as you are. Love yourself and you’ll allow yourself to be happy.

What other tips can you offer about loving your body? And what do you love most about your body? Leave me a comment and let me know!

  • You know what’s funny? I have never once thought about loving my body for what it does for me rather than how it looks. My relationship with my form is strictly based on how big or small it is. I read this after having just come from the gym and thought “yeah, you just ran six miles because of this awesomely healthy body that you have.” Way to put things into perspective!

    • Wow! Six miles is pretty damn impressive! I’d say you have something to be proud of and I’m glad that I could help you see that. 😀
