Remember the days of Myspace before Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram? Instead of crushing candy and farming virtual crops, you spent hours filling out awesome Myspace surveys. How else were your friends going to know all your deepest secrets or internet stalk you? Well, thanks to the very cool Ashten of Always Ashten I’m able to break down 2013 Myspace style. Yea buddy!
1. What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before?
I don’t want to toot my own horn or anything, but I totally roughed it out in the wild for a full weekend! Okay, so maybe it was only camping in a Texas state park, but it was still a first for me and the pups.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Keeping your resolutions means you stick to them for the first 2 days of the new year, right? Totally. That’s what I thought.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
I swear everyone is popping out kids these days! I had lots of friends who gave birth to their mini-mes, but the closest person to me that gave birth this year was my sister. And I couldn’t be happier to be a new aunt to such an amazing little girl. There are already so many things I want her to know. Here are just a few.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Does my youth count? I was actually very lucky not to lose anyone that I was close to this year.
5. What countries did you visit?
Unfortunately, the only traveling I did this year was around Texas. I’m hoping to bust out of Texas in 2014! Watch out world here I come!
6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
More money. I want to make it rain up in here. And maybe pay off some of those nasty student loans.
7. What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 19, 2013. This was the day that the world gained the most amazing little girl EVER! Okay, as her aunt I may be a little biased, but still.
September 19th would definitely be a close second. This was the day that Adam Levine made goo goo eyes at me (and hundreds of other men and women) from across the stage in Austin. I just know he was begging me to go home with him. Or buy some merchandise. You can read about the concert and ogle his pics here.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Is it uber lame if I say starting this blog? I’m only a few months into blogging and I’ve already met some amazing people. It’s been a pretty awesome experience.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Traveling. I swore that 2013 would be the year that I satisfied some more of my wanderlust, but I just couldn’t make it happen.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I will forever remember the bowling injury of 2013. I was unable to fully bend my finger for months!
11. What was the best thing you bought?
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Wendy Davis. I mean, the woman (armed with pink sneakers and a catheter) spoke for almost 11 hours straight without taking any food, water, or bathroom breaks in an attempt to filibuster the Texas abortion bill.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Radoslaw Czerkawski, the abuser of Puppy Doe, and other animal abusers. It always make me so sad to see what those poor little babies have endured at the hands of some pretty cruel people.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Bills. Bills. Bills.
Can you pay my bills?
Can you pay my telephone bills?
Do you pay my automo’ bills?
If you did then maybe we could chill
No. Seriously. Can you?
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving into a house! While I loathed the moving process, I was really excited to finally have a yard for the babies, a really nice fireplace, and so much more space.
16. What song will always remind you of 2013?
Ugh. It’s going to have to be Blurred Lines, isn’t it? After the never ending debate about the possible promotion of rape culture within the lyrics and an unforgettable (and strange) VMA performance by Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke, the song definitely made a strong imprint on 2013.
And now you can be baffled with me.
17. Compared to this time last year:
happier or sadder?
Both. I’m happy to be in a new home and with certain aspects of my life. And I’m sadder about other aspects.
Older or wiser?
I totally thought these went hand in hand. Don’t they?
Thinner or Fatter?
Richer or poorer?
A little bit richer. Though after moving expenses and the holidays, my bank account is hangry. So hungry it’s angry.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Partaaay! Or at least gone out a little bit more. That’s what your twenties are for right?
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Paying bills. That shit is killing my bank account! Totally kidding. Sort of.
20. How will you be spending New Years Eve?
It all depends on what time Troy gets off work tonight. (Damn that responsibility crap.) If he gets off late, I may be snuggling on the couch with my two favorite fur babies and nursing a
bottle glass of wine (showing my old age). If he gets off early, I’ll be feeling 22 and getting down with my bad self out on the town. Oops. I think I just showed my age again.
21. Did you fall in love in 2013?
Yes. When Adam Levine looked at me across the stage it was love at first sight.
22. How many one-night stands?
I could never cheat on Adam like that! Oh, and I wouldn’t cheat on Troy either. He doesn’t share well with others (except Adam). Though for some reason I keep getting spam from Ashley Madison with the subject “Life if short. Have an affair.”
23. What was your favorite TV program?
I agree with Ashten on this one. Breaking Bad was everyone’s favorite show this year. If you missed out on this show, you are definitely not one of the cool kids. But I like you anyway.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
25. What was the best book you read?
I was finally able to read Game of Thrones. And loved it! But I really am a geek at heart.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I am not ashamed to say that I rediscovered my love of boy bands. In preparation for the BSB concert, I reached into the vault and pumped up the volume to N’Sync and BSB alike!
27. What did you want and get?
A Kindle! Now I have endless amounts of books at my finger tips! Total win.
28. What did you want and not get?
A weekend in Austin for my birthday and Halloween. The hotel was booked. The costumes were made. And everything was canceled at the last minute because Troy worked late. You can read all about it here.
29. What was your favorite film(s) of this year?
I’m not going to lie. I loved the big blockbusters, The Hobbit, The Great Gatsby and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. I know. I’m so original.
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Worked. And 28. This was not the year for celebrations. Somehow all my plans failed. And failed royally!
31. What would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Ryan Gosling or Emma Stone. ‘Nuff said.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
Fashionably lazy. Oh yeah, it’s a thing! Working from home allows me the opportunity to rock some pretty amazing pj’s!
33. What kept you sane?
Troy. Family. Friends. My pups. And endless amounts of wine.
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Stand with Texas Women! Of course I would get fired up about an issue that affects women all over Texas.
36. Who did (do) you miss?
My friends. I don’t see them nearly as often as I’d like. It’s lonely here in San Antonio sans friends.
37. Who was the best new person/ people you met?
Ava, my favorite little niece! She’s definitely the best new person I met in 2013.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013:
I think I have always attributed a part of my worth to my weight. But this year I learned that self worth and beauty are not tied to the numbers on scale. And real women come in all shapes, sizes, colors, etc. making them all uniquely beautiful. I’m still learning to love myself completely, but I am well on my way. I even wrote a letter to my body and offered some advice about how not to talk to girls about their bodies. I hope that someday people everywhere will be confident in their skin and comfortable with themselves.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
“In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
Where you invest your love, you invest your life
In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
And where you invest your love, you invest your life”
How will you be ringing in the New Year? Do you have any special memories of 2013?
